I have loads of comical haikus. But here's a villanelle I wrote a few months back for class. I actually liked it. The professor vowed never to teach this form of poetry again because of the horror of what was turned in. So... U-Decide, True Believers.

That Villain, L

On this terrifying Canadian night
the falls are especially precipitous
and I’m in a barrel, watertight.

I first met you here, one summer’s twilight;
the discovery was serendipitous,
marked by lovely, terrifying Canadian nights.

Niagara, though, is no Isle of Wight,
where we spent that weekend, inebrious,
from wine in a barrel, watertight.

I apologize for starting that ultimate fight.
Our screams grew ever more cacophonous
on yesterday’s terrifying Canadian night.

Our problems were my oversight.
I was your little homunculus:
locked in a barrel, watertight.

Memories filled of you are burning bright;
the rest of me is vacuous.
On this final, terrifying Canadian night,
I am a barrel, watertight.


By the way, how is everybody?
